Derby Sunoco

Those that spoke out about problems in local government put a big target on their backs. Charles Militello, the owner of the Derby, NY Sunoco is one of many examples. Evans assessor, Jeanie Chase, reassessed the Sunoco and all commercial properties. Even though there were five (5) other gas stations in town that should have been used as comparables, the four (4) pump Sunoco had a twenty-two (22) pump gas station near the Buffalo Airport as a comparable. Militello hired a lawyer to fight his assessment. It took a few years to reach a solution.

In 2009, Militello took the town to court to block the sale of the Derby Veterans Park.
